BH | Studio Beaulieu Arched Velvet King Bed

In the great houses of the seventeenth century, the finest bed was hung in velvet, the costliest cloth a household could buy, because the bed was where wealth and comfort met. The fully upholstered bed brings that idea down to everyday scale, and its arched headboard recalls the soft, rounded shapes of 1930s bedrooms.

At king size, the performance velvet, in Cream or Mushroom, becomes a wide, softly glowing headboard; the velvet is made to resist stains and is laid over dense foam, so the whole frame is cushioned. At 46 inches tall, the arched headboard gives two people plenty of room to lean back. The padded rails sit slightly wider than the mattress for a rounded, generous outline. An engineered wood frame with wood slats carries the mattress directly, so no box spring is needed, and memory foam, innerspring, latex or hybrid mattresses all suit. Non-marking caps finish the laminated wood legs, the frame is rated to 800 lbs, and assembly is required.

Make it the heart of a spacious primary suite or a guest room meant to feel indulgent. The velvet at this scale is pure softness: layer ivory and sand linens and a mohair throw, add a curved bench at the foot, a pair of alabaster lamps and a large mirror, with pale oak floors and sheer curtains. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
