BH | Studio Beverley Cane-Panel Full Bed

Woven cane reached Europe through the East India trade in the seventeenth century, and caned chairs became the fashion in England after 1660, prized for being light, cool and strong. It never really left: caned headboards returned in French-style bedrooms of the eighteenth century and again in airy mid-century bedrooms.

At full size the headboard spans three woven cane panels framed in solid hardwood, finished in Chestnut or Jet with the natural-toned weave glowing between the posts. The cane is a sturdy synthetic. Underneath, engineered wood slats hold the mattress and allow it to breathe, so you can skip the box spring, and any mattress type will do: latex, hybrid, memory foam or innerspring. The headboard can be mounted at three different heights to suit a slimmer or thicker mattress. It stands on slender tapered legs, the frame is rated to 794 lbs, and assembly is required.

It suits a teenager's room, a guest room or the bedroom of a small apartment, where it looks substantial without taking over. Wood and cane lean mid-century: pair them with a mustard or olive quilt, a teak-toned dresser, a globe lamp and a few trailing plants. Rattan pieces and terracotta pots carry the warmth through the house. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
