BH | Studio Beverley Cane-Panel King Bed

Woven cane reached Europe through the East India trade in the seventeenth century, and caned chairs became the fashion in England after 1660, prized for being light, cool and strong. It never really left: caned headboards returned in French-style bedrooms of the eighteenth century and again in airy mid-century bedrooms.

In king size, four broad cane panels run across the headboard, each framed in solid hardwood finished in Chestnut or Jet against the paler weave. The cane is a durable synthetic. Engineered wood slats stretch beneath the king mattress and keep air moving, no box spring is needed, and latex, memory foam, innerspring or hybrid mattresses all work on it. The headboard bolts on at one of three heights, so it frames the mattress neatly however thick it is. Slender tapered legs lift the frame, which is rated to 794 lbs. Assembly is required.

Give it the primary bedroom, where the wide cane headboard brings texture to a whole wall. Wood and cane suit a relaxed, layered room: stone-washed linen bedding, a quilted coverlet, wide rattan bedside tables, a pair of linen-shaded lamps and a large landscape painting above. It works equally well with white plaster walls or deep sage. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
