BH | Studio Bourton Round-Post Upholstered Twin Bed

Before box springs and steel frames, a bed was a wooden frame built around four corner posts, with a board fixed between them at the head and the foot. English country joiners in villages across the Cotswolds made it plain and sturdy, and the settlers who carried that craft to America, the Shakers among them, kept it so, with round posts and honest timber.

Scaled to a twin, the frame gives a small room real presence. Round solid wood posts in Almond or Chestnut stand at the corners of a kiln-dried wood frame, and between them sit a padded headboard and footboard in a flecked weave in Cream or Stone. The 46-inch headboard is soft enough to prop a child up for a bedtime story. Slats of wood carry a standard twin mattress with airflow underneath, so no box spring is called for. It is rated to 794 lbs and arrives for assembly at home.

It suits a child's room that should grow with them, a narrow guest room, or a pair set side by side in a room for visiting grandchildren. The soft weave and solid wood keep a small space calm: try a striped cotton quilt, a woven basket at the foot for books and toys, a small painted chest for a nightstand and a gingham cushion against the headboard. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
