HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

A lid-up bench holds more than a bench with drawers, because there is no runner hardware eating into the space and nothing dividing it up. You lift the top and the whole interior is there, one volume, no compartments telling you what should go where.

Solid wood in a warm amber finish, forty inches long and eighteen high, with a hinged lid over a single open interior and four splayed tapered legs underneath. The lid sits flush when closed, so from across the room it reads as a bench rather than as a box with a function.

It takes the things that have no proper home: spare bedding, winter boots, the board games nobody will admit to owning. Put it at the end of a bed and it holds the blankets you only want half the year. Put it under a window and it becomes seating the rest of the time, holding the overflow underneath while somebody sits on top of it.

Care

Lid and hinges
Lower the lid rather than dropping it, and check the hinge screws once a year. Keep fingers clear of the closing edge.

Timber
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the unpainted wood keeps the sheen and extends the life of the piece.

A note on handmade variation
This piece is made by hand from solid wood. Grain patterns, knots, and small variations in tone or dimension occur naturally and are not faults. If you are buying several pieces to sit together in one room, order them together where possible, as batches can differ slightly in colour.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
