HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

Faux bamboo is one of the oldest and best tricks in decorating. When Europe fell hard for all things Chinese a couple of centuries ago, and the Prince Regent built his bamboo-mad pavilion in Brighton, cabinetmakers began turning ordinary wood to mimic the ringed, segmented look of real bamboo. It caught on and never quite left, because it does something clever: it brings a little wit and a little of the exotic to a piece without ever tipping into costume.

A storage bench is one of the most useful things you can put by a door, and this one wears that faux-bamboo charm while doing real work. Built from solid wood in a warm almond finish, it carries the family's bamboo-style carving around its frame and legs, and is topped with a cushioned seat in a rich Caramel leather that softens and warms with use.

Two drawers on antique brass knobs handle the gloves and keys, while the open lower shelf takes a row of baskets or a pair of boots. At three feet wide it settles neatly into a hall, a boot room, or at the foot of a bed: a handsome place to sit and lace up. It's faux bamboo at its most practical, and none the less charming for it.

Care

Leather
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. The leather will soften and deepen in colour with use, which is rather the point of it.

Timber
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the wood keeps the sheen and extends the life of the piece.

Brass
Dust the knobs with a soft, dry cloth. The brass is finished to look antiqued, so it wants nothing more than a wipe — no polishing needed, the aged look is the point.

A note on handmade variation
This piece is made by hand from solid wood, with a natural leather seat and hand-carved detailing — so grain, tone, carving, and the leather itself vary a little piece to piece. That's the character of real materials, not a fault.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
