HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

A bench with drawers under it is doing two jobs in the floor space of one, which in a hall or at the end of a bed is the whole argument. Storage you have to walk around is not really storage at all.

This version has a low back and shaped arms rather than a bare seat: a blonde saddle tan cushion over solid wood in a warm amber, with two pull-out drawers on brass handles below. The drawers run the full depth of the bench, so what goes in the back is still reachable without emptying the front.

The back is what separates this from an ordinary hall bench. You can sit properly rather than perch, which matters if anyone is going to use it for more than lacing a boot. The pale leather takes on its character faster than the tobacco, darkening where people sit and staying light at the edges, so a year of use makes it look better rather than worn.

Care

Leather seat
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. The leather will soften and deepen in colour where people actually sit, which is rather the point of it.

Brass handles
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Leave the patina to come on its own; polish only if you want it bright.

Drawers
Wooden runners move more sweetly with an occasional rub of candle wax along the bearing edge. Do not force a drawer that has swollen in damp weather; let the room dry out first.

Timber
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the unpainted wood keeps the sheen and extends the life of the piece.

A note on handmade variation
This piece is made by hand from solid wood. Grain patterns, knots, and small variations in tone or dimension occur naturally and are not faults. If you are buying several pieces to sit together in one room, order them together where possible, as batches can differ slightly in colour.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
