BH | Studio Clovelly Spindle King Bed

Turned spindles run through English and American country furniture, from the backs of Windsor chairs to the spool beds of mid-1800s America. Designers of the 1950s pared the idea down to a row of slim uprights on tapered legs, and it has looked fresh ever since.

Across its broad headboard a long row of turned spindles stands between two round posts, each capped with a soft dome and narrowing toward a slim foot, with shorter posts at the corners of the foot. Built from 100% solid hardwood and finished in Honey, Jet or Chestnut, it keeps a light, airy look even at king size. Wood slats carry a standard king mattress, so there is no need for a box spring, and the frame is rated to 800 lbs. Nearly ten inches under the rails leaves space for long storage boxes, and the headboard makes a good backrest for reading. Assembly is required.

A king is made for a primary bedroom with space to walk around it, room for two to sprawl and a dog at the foot on Sunday mornings. The open headboard keeps a big bed from feeling heavy. It suits a bright, relaxed room: layer white percale, an oatmeal linen duvet and a cable-knit throw, then add oak bedside tables, ceramic lamps and a large landscape painting above. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
