BH | Studio Clovelly Spindle Queen Bed

Turned spindles run through English and American country furniture, from the backs of Windsor chairs to the spool beds of mid-1800s America. Designers of the 1950s pared the idea down to a row of slim uprights on tapered legs, and it has looked fresh ever since.

The headboard is a row of slim turned spindles held between two round corner posts, each with a softly domed top and tapering to a narrow foot. The frame is 100% solid hardwood, finished in Honey, Jet or Chestnut. Closely spaced wood slats sit beneath a standard queen mattress, so no box spring is required, and the frame is rated to carry 800 lbs. The side rails stand almost ten inches off the floor, leaving room for shallow storage bins underneath, and the open headboard is tall enough to prop pillows against for reading. Assembly is required.

A queen suits a primary bedroom or a generous guest room equally well. The turned wood is easy to dress: make it up with white cotton sheets, a blue-and-white quilt folded at the foot and a pair of linen-shaded lamps on painted bedside tables, with a rag rug and a jug of garden flowers. It belongs in a farmhouse, a beach cottage or a city apartment that wants some warmth. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
