HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

The useful hall bench is shorter than people expect. Thirty-two inches gets two people sitting and still leaves the corridor walkable, which a forty-three inch bench does not: the extra foot always comes out of the space you need to get past it.

Solid wood in a chestnut finish on curved runners, a continuous loop of timber at each end rather than four separate legs, with a leather seat on top and a slatted shelf running underneath for the boots and bags that would otherwise be on the floor. The seat and the shelf are the same depth, so nothing underneath sticks out into the walkway.

The slats are the detail worth noticing: a solid shelf collects grit and has to be emptied to be cleaned, while a slatted one lets the dirt fall through to a floor you were going to sweep anyway. Small decisions like that are what separate a hall bench that lasts from one that becomes a nuisance.

Care

Leather seat
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. The leather will soften and deepen in colour where people actually sit, which is rather the point of it.

Timber
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the unpainted wood keeps the sheen and extends the life of the piece.

A note on handmade variation
This piece is made by hand from solid wood. Grain patterns, knots, and small variations in tone or dimension occur naturally and are not faults. If you are buying several pieces to sit together in one room, order them together where possible, as batches can differ slightly in colour.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
