HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

Deep buttoning on a flat seat is a Victorian habit and a practical one: it stops a wide cushion from bellying out in the middle, and it gives a plain rectangle some depth. It is the difference between a bench and a board with padding on it.

A tobacco leather seat with hand-set buttons and a line of small brass studs round the lower edge, carried on solid wood legs in a chestnut finish. Thirty-six inches long, fourteen high, which is low enough to tuck under a hall table and the right height for putting shoes on without folding yourself in half to do it.

Leather improves where it is used and stays put where it is not, so after a year the seat will have a pale worn line exactly where people sit. That is the piece earning its keep in plain sight. Tobacco is the easiest of the leathers to place, because it sits happily beside both warm woods and cold stone.

Care

Leather seat
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. The leather will soften and deepen in colour where people actually sit, which is rather the point of it.

Timber
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the unpainted wood keeps the sheen and extends the life of the piece.

A note on handmade variation
This piece is made by hand from solid wood. Grain patterns, knots, and small variations in tone or dimension occur naturally and are not faults. If you are buying several pieces to sit together in one room, order them together where possible, as batches can differ slightly in colour.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
