BH | Studio Kanazawa Wraparound Chenille Queen Bed

Kanazawa, an old castle city in western Japan, has kept its crafts alive for centuries, from gold leaf to lacquer, and its wooden townhouses are a lesson in calm, low-slung rooms. Fabric-dressed beds have a long Western history, from hung four-posters to the padded headboards of the 1930s, but this one sits low, on a platform frame that owes something to mid-century design and the Japanese habit of sleeping close to the floor.

This one is upholstered all over in a soft chenille, a fabric with a short, velvety pile, in Cream, Loden, Truffle or Dove. A tall padded headboard joins thick padded rails at the sides and foot, so the mattress sits inside one unbroken cushioned surround, and rounded corners soften every angle. A sturdy wood frame sits beneath, and wood slats hold a standard queen mattress with no box spring. The chenille can be spot cleaned as needed. Assembly is required.

Low and calm, it gives a primary bedroom or guest room the look of a bed built into the room. The chenille is soft and quiet: layer white and oat linen, a chunky knit throw, a paper lantern overhead and a low oak bench beneath the window. The padded rails make a handy perch for pulling on socks. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
