BH | Studio Keswick Paneled Wood Queen Bed

Frame-and-panel work, thin boards held in a grooved frame so the wood can move with the seasons, dressed chests, doors and wainscoted rooms for centuries. The low platform bed on open legs came later, with the mid-century bedrooms of the 1950s and 60s, when the wood itself became the decoration.

This queen sits low on a slim platform, its headboard divided into two framed panels like a pair of tall cabinet doors laid side by side. The legs are solid hardwood, set at an angle and joined in a loop at each corner, so the frame looks light and the floor stays visible beneath it. Underneath, wood slats run across a reinforced centre beam with extra legs at the middle, a firm base that means no box spring is needed. It takes any queen-size mattress, memory foam, latex, innerspring or hybrid, and the frame is rated to hold 601 lbs. The headboard stands tall enough to prop a pillow against for reading. Assembly is required.

Make it the bed in a primary bedroom, where its quiet lines let the linen and the art do the talking. The wood, in Chestnut or Driftwood, loves cream and oatmeal bedding, a striped wool blanket folded at the foot, a pair of brass swing-arm lamps and a jute rug underfoot. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
