BH | Studio Keswick Paneled Wood Twin Bed

Frame-and-panel work, thin boards held in a grooved frame so the wood can move with the seasons, dressed chests, doors and wainscoted rooms for centuries. The low platform bed on open legs came later, with the mid-century bedrooms of the 1950s and 60s, when the wood itself became the decoration.

The twin brings the same design down to a single sleeper: a low platform, a two-panel headboard framed like a pair of cabinet doors, and solid hardwood legs angled out and closed in a loop at each corner. The slats sit across a reinforced centre beam with extra centre legs, firm enough that no box spring is needed. It takes a twin-size mattress in memory foam, latex, innerspring or hybrid, and the frame is rated to 601 lbs, strong for a bed this size. The headboard gives a child or a teenager something solid to lean on for homework or a bedtime story. Assembly is required.

Use it in a child's room that should grow up gracefully, a teenager's room, or a narrow guest room or box room tucked under the eaves. A pair side by side makes a handsome room for visiting grandchildren. Style it with a ticking stripe or a gingham duvet, a wool blanket in mustard or moss and a round rug. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.
