Langham Open Bedside Table — In Russet

Bobbin turning is one of those honest, unshowy details that has quietly held furniture together, and made it prettier, for a few hundred years. Those knobbly rows of stacked beads are a woodturner's way of showing off without ever raising their voice: Jacobean joiners loved them, and the Victorians revived them in their spool furniture. They give this bedside table its whole character.

It's built from solid wood in a warm russet finish, a soft mid-brown with a faint red warmth, with a single drawer on a classic round knob and that open lower shelf doing the visible work: room for a couple of books, a folded pair of glasses, a small clock. At just under two feet tall it lands right at mattress height, so everything you want at night is exactly where your hand expects it.

Run a pair either side of the bed for symmetry, or use one beside a reading chair where the drawer-and-shelf combination earns its keep. The open shelf keeps it feeling light in a room, a good choice when a solid little cabinet would be one piece too many. In russet it feels warm and traditional, equally at home at a bedside or pulled up beside a reading chair.
