BH | Studio Saturnia Pillar Travertine Table Lamp

Travertine forms where warm mineral springs rise and leave their stone behind, and at Saturnia in southern Tuscany the hot springs still lay it down in pale, cascading terraces. Italian designers of the 1960s and 70s brought the stone indoors as lamp bases and tables, and a stone base under a plain drum shade gives a room a calm, warm glow after dark.

Here a solid column of real travertine forms the base, its natural pits and veining making each lamp a little different, under a round drum shade in white fabric that softens the light into a warm, even glow. The stone is a pale sand colour with faint flecks of warmer tone. It takes one standard A19 E26 bulb up to 60 watts (not included), and a switch set into the 70-inch cord turns it on and off, with plenty of reach to a wall outlet. At 20 inches tall it is sized for a nightstand or side table.

Set it on a bedside table for reading light, on a living room side table next to the sofa, at one end of a sideboard or on an entry console where it greets you at night. Sand-coloured stone sits naturally with linen, oak and rattan, and looks just as good beside a black lacquered tray or a stack of art books. Use a pair on a buffet for symmetry. This listing is for one table lamp; the bulb is not included.
