HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

A sideboard front is the largest flat plane in most dining rooms, and left plain it reads as a wall. Cut a run of close vertical grooves across it and the same board becomes light and shadow, shifting as you cross the room. That is what the detail has always been for.

Solid hardwood in a deep charcoal, the entire front fluted, with drawers and cabinets behind slim brass handles and turned legs beneath. The dark finish is what makes the grooves read sharply rather than softly.

The Savoy opened in 1889 and spent the following decades becoming shorthand for a certain kind of London glamour, which is the register this piece is pitched in. Set it along a dining room wall with the china and the glassware behind the doors and the linens in the drawers. It is a long piece and isn't pretending otherwise.

Care

TimberKeep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the surface keeps the finish fed. Wipe spills quickly rather than letting them sit.

BrassDust with a dry cloth. Leave the brass to darken on its own if you like that, or bring it back with a little metal polish on a soft cloth, kept off the wood.

StabilityThis is a tall, shallow piece, which makes it easy to tip if it is leaned on or a drawer is left open and loaded. Secure it to the wall with an anti-tip strap, especially in a home with small children.

A note on handmade variationThis piece is made by hand from solid wood. Grain patterns, knots, and small variations in colour and dimension are part of it and not faults.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
