BH | Studio Stamford Slatted 24-Inch Vanity

In English houses before plumbing, the washstand was true bedroom furniture, made to match the chest of drawers and the wardrobe beside it. Slatted wood, a device British makers borrowed from Scandinavian modern cabinetmakers in the mid-century decades, gives the bathroom vanity back some of that furniture character.

This one stands on four tapered wood legs, the way the old washstand did, its front faced in horizontal slats with a fine shadow line between each. Two soft-close doors open onto a shelf that moves up or down for tall bottles or rolled hand towels. The ceramic basin and counter, in Jet or White, are made as one piece with gently curved sides and three holes for an 8-inch widespread faucet. Raised off the floor, the cabinet leaves a little air beneath, so the room reads lighter and cleaning is easy. The frame is engineered wood in a laminate in Hazel, Almond or Alabaster; assembly is required.

At 24 inches wide it fits a compact bathroom, a guest bath under the eaves or a powder room by the back door. Keep a soap pump and a bud vase on top, guest towels inside. Pair it with a black and white checkerboard floor, a round mirror, a matte black faucet and a striped hand towel. This listing is for one vanity with its ceramic basin top; faucet and fixtures are not included.
