HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

There is a distinct art to a piece of furniture that refuses to be just one thing. We call it an ottoman, but over the course of a single evening it can be a footrest, an extra seat when the room fills up, and, with a heavy wooden tray set on top, a proper coffee table.

This is the darkest of the Sussex leathers: a deep espresso, close to black in low light, with the deep hand-set buttoning of the Victorian library ottoman and turned feet on brass castors underneath. The castors are small and brass, and they are the reason the piece moves as easily as it does.

That mobility is the whole trick. Clear a space for conversation, or draw it closer to the fire, with a single push. Against a pale sofa it reads as a dark anchor rather than another soft shape, which is exactly what a room full of upholstery needs if it is not to drift.

Materials & Dimensions

Materials: Espresso leather over a solid hardwood frame, deep-buttoned top, hand-turned feet in a pale honeyed finish, fitted with brass castors.

Product dimensions: Height 18 in, Width 36 in, Depth 24 in, Weight 36.38 lbs.

Boxed dimensions: Height 22 in, Width 40 in, Depth 28 in, Weight 42.99 lbs.

Care

Leather
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. The leather will soften and deepen in colour with use, which is rather the point of it.

Brass castors
Check the castor fixings once or twice a year and keep the wheels rolling freely. Take a little care on soft or easily-marked flooring.

Timber
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. An occasional pass of beeswax on the unpainted wood keeps the sheen and extends the life of the piece.

A note on handmade variation
This piece is made by hand from solid wood. Grain patterns, knots, and small variations in tone or dimension occur naturally and are not faults. If you are buying several pieces to sit together in one room, order them together where possible, as batches can differ slightly in colour.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
