HOUSE NOTE · ABOUT THIS PIECE

The upholstered bed came into fashion in the 1930s, when Art Deco bedrooms swapped carved wood for padded velvet. Channel tufting, upholstery stitched into tall parallel ribs, was its signature, often on a headboard stepped in at the shoulders like the era's mirrors.

This twin-size version keeps the full drama: a tall headboard ribbed in vertical channels, its shoulders scooped in at the top corners, padded deeply enough to sit up against for a bedtime story. The covering is a performance velvet in Blush or Dove, treated to resist stains, which matters in a child's room. Wood slats laid across an engineered wood frame carry a twin mattress of any common type, foam, latex, innerspring or hybrid, with no box spring required. A centre rail on two support legs strengthens the middle, the frame is rated to 800 lbs, and the black wood legs wear capped feet that are gentle on floors. Assembly is required.

It makes a first big bed that a child will not outgrow in style, and a pretty single for a guest room or a small study that doubles for visitors. Pair the velvet with white eyelet bedding, a scalloped cushion, a painted chest of drawers and a gingham lampshade. Two of these side by side, with one bedside table between, make a charming guest room. This listing is for the bed frame only; mattress and bedding are not included.

Care

Velvet upholstery
The performance velvet carries cleaning code S, which means spot cleaning only with a water-free dry-cleaning solvent, and no water or steam. Vacuum regularly to lift dust before it settles in. Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing. Before using any cleaner, test it on a small, hidden area first.

Wood frame
The engineered wood frame and wood slats sit beneath the upholstery. Check and tighten the bolts now and then, as you would with any bed frame.

Wood legs
Dust with a soft, dry cloth, and wipe occasionally with a barely damp one, drying straight after. Keep out of direct sun and away from radiators and heat vents.

A Note on Velvet
Velvet shows soft shading or pressure marks where the pile lies in different directions. This is a characteristic of the fabric and part of how it catches the light.

Shipping & Returns

Most pieces are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 2 to 4 weeks. Pieces marked Made to Order are built after you order, and the timing shown on that piece applies instead. Larger items ship by freight, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery time that suits you. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

A few addresses, typically islands, peninsulas and remote rural routes, carry an additional fee from the carrier. If that applies to yours, we will email you the exact amount before your order is released, and you can accept it or cancel for a full refund.

Please inspect your piece on arrival and keep the packaging until you have. If anything is damaged or incorrect, photograph the piece and the box including the label, then email support@bramleyhousehome.com within 24 hours. We will arrange a replacement or repair at no cost to you.

Because each piece ships directly from the maker, we are not able to accept returns for change of mind.
